really liked it
bookshelves: 2011
Read from June 27 to July 03, 2011

This book is similar to Shanghai Girls, in that its strength is the history of the book. It follows some of the same characters, only now they are in China during the Great Leap Forward. The focus is on countryside life and what happened to the people who were living in the countryside during this period. There's a true sense of terror and horror. There were a few things in the story that I didn't believe, but I did enjoy the story, was intrigued by it and really enjoyed reading the history.

I'd recommend this one if you liked Shanghai Girls.
