I am speechless after reading this book. The story goes of a country couple and their six children happily living in rural New South Wales. That life though is thrown out the window when 11 year old Sarah is struck down by a mystery illness. Her parents rush her to a number of local hospitals in search of answers. But what they find is a nightmare after an initial false diagnosis of pregnancy combined with misinformation about the family result in doctors and a government department threatening the family and requesting Sarah be put into foster care. All the while the family dont know were to turn as even those who want to help in the medical profession found themselves threatened by those who are imposing their will on the family.

I cant imagine how the family coped with such pressure that clearly had a devastating effect on them that in the end they felt like they coudn't trust anyone. All the while Sarah got sicker and sicker, only showing any signs of improvement when her father had the government control of her daughters case stopped after numerous court appearances that financially crippled the family. After that they got treatment for Sarah in Victoria and for the first time the whole family was treated with dignity. Ultimately Sarah would pass away, her last wish to ensure that no children would have to go through what she went through.

The only good thing about this is that change is slowly happening in NSW so that the tragic events that left a permanant scar on the Westley family will never happen again to another unsuspecting family. Very sad and upsetting Sarah's last wish brings a terryfying world of forced medication into the public spotlight. I dont know how any of those who imposed their will by legal force on the family can sleep at night.
