The book that I read was "A Wreath for Emmett Till" the story was about a selection of short poems explained in deep meaning in the back of the book it gave the meaning of each short poem that related to Emmett Till. In the book it described the struggles of African-Americans back then and the separation of white and blacks also the world's reaction to the slaying of Emmett Till.It all happened by one day when young Emmett Till was in a store he whistled at a white woman who was the managers wife. Emmett often studdered a lot so his mother taught him to whistle when he cant get his words out so he tried to say hey to the woman, but couldnt get his words out so he whistled. Days later Emmett Till's beaten mangled body was found in a river, his mother had an open casket to the world so people can see what happened to her son.
The author's purpose was to inform readers on what happened to a young boy in a grocery store who whistled at a white woman. The author achieved his/her purpose by explaining in deep meaningful words of the struggles of blacks back then and how crucial people were back in those days. The strengths and weaknesses of this book was the author often kept the reader interested while at the same time gave an understanding of each of the short poems in the story. The weaknesses were the author in the book should have maybe used a vivid understanding of words in the book because at times i got lost because of some of the sentence structure in the story. Overall this was a great book that I would reccommend to all who wants to go back down the history lane.
