when I first read this book in 3rd or 4th grade, it really inspired me. Of course the plot of a middle school girl getting a book published with an agent who was her best friend, also in middle school, without letting this girl's mom know until the mom (who worked at a children's publishing field) published it without knowing the author's identity, is highly unlikely, but I still really enjoyed it! i think to some extent this is every young writer's dream: to write a book good enough to be published not as something a child wrote, but as good as something anyone could've written. We all work towards that point.

Anna I facilitate a team for a Battle of the Books and this was one of the books this year. It was a good read for the 4th and 5th graders in the group which included boys and girls. They could identify with the girls wanting to do something truly enterprising. It is also refreshing for a book to be written about middle school girls that isn't depicting the girls as back-biting, hormonal, and willing to throw their BFF under the boss for a boy! I realize that is written for Elementary students, but Elementary students need to read about a positive Middle School girls.
