I would put this in the middle of the road Piccoult, maybe more on the better side, if I really really had to choose a side, but defiantly middle of the road. It's a story that is told from various points of view, most going forward except for the daughter's whose is going backwards, so that makes is kind of interesting. The cast is very small which I always like, even though it still took me a bit to figure out who was who. When people's ages are all over the place, I get confused, even though I know I shouldn't. But I do. So sue me. Anyway. Even though the cast was small, one important characters voice was not heard, which I found kind of interesting. Like why did the author choose to leave him out? A husband and wife fight, something that has been going on forever and the wife takes the daughter and runs from San Diego to Vermont or NH or something to where her brother is. The wife and the man that owns the farm where the brother works hook up super quick, as per the norm in a lot of Piccoult's books, which always annoys me. It's like the older women lead in all her books need two men fighting over her. What does that say about the author? The ending was very real-like though, so that redeemed the story.
