I wanted something completely different from what I am currently writing and a spy novel fits the bill. The writing is clean and fast, which reminds me to step away from the damned adjectives!

Sad to say the book failed to live up to the exciting first chapters. In fact, Silva used a few literary cliches one too many times. The writing was sparse except when the author wanted the reader to know he had performed "extensive research" then he hammered the facts down the throat.

Aside from those scenes, some of the detail was silly. There was one scene where the protagonist suddenly realized he hadn't changed his clothes or showered for two days. Mind you this was after he endured a flight from South America to Europe. Don't you think he might have noticed said personal distress along the way?

Not bad, not amazing, not something to make me read anything else by this author.
