Iron House
by John Hart
by John Hart
I have read all of John Hart's previous books and loved every one. Not surprisingly, Iron House is a gripping story with unforgettable characters, family secrets, unexpected twists, and honest emotions.
I believe the character of Elena may be the most honest, realistic character in the book even though some have said she is the least. Elena is a stranger to violence, and she is in shock. Her character does not need to be "fleshed out" more: She is on the defensive and is being "fleshed out" plenty by everyone she comes into contact with, sufficiently for the reader to understand her in context with what she is facing. Sure, it would be interesting to know more about her, but I think it is more powerful just to see this innocent woman trying to survive and make sense of what is going on without knowing every little detail about her. I think people have such strong opinions about Elena because of what she had to endure, and they just want to know more. Mr. Hart should be given credit for drawing readers in to care about Elena, and be congratulated for the subtle yet powerful way she was written.
In Iron House, I found a dim, unbreakable light in darkness and doubt.
Thank-you Mr. Hart for not giving up writing this story.
