I decided to read this book along with the Oprah book club and listen to the webcasts over a 10 week period. My first impression as I read the first few chapters was that it was a little too "out there" and zen-like, and so incredibly DEEEEEP, that I wasn't sure if I really wanted to keep reading it. But I decided to persevere and try to hold off my opinion until it was done. Though I can't say I bought every single thing he said, I did get a lot from it-- the importance of being present in each moment of your life, the huge role the ego wants to play in your life and how you should rid yourself of it, the importance of having the spirit with you (though he didn't call it that) as a guiding force in your life. Though he uses terms that were unfamiliar sometimes, I was able to see that he just had a different name for things that I was familiar with, and while reading it, I would interpret it from a gospel perspective and see how it fit in my life.
It is by no means an easy read...some of his wording sounds really psycho-babbly, but if you're able to "get it", what he's saying makes a lot of sense.
So, after all is said and done, I'm really glad I kept going to the end of the book, for it did really impact me. I'm not likely to forget what I read for quite some time, especially if I'm able to put it into practice...
