Joanne Walker, aka Siobhan Walkingstick. Geek girl that suddenly finds the modern work colliding in dramatic fashion with what she believed to be only myths and legends, until an ancient Celtic god tries to kill her. It all gets decidedly, and confusingly, real after that. Discovering she is a shaman, sent to heal without guidance or direction beyond a smiling Coyote for a spirit-guide, everything gets a bit surreal for Jo.

She has three days to stop the Wild Hunt - the collectors of dying souls - from being unleashed to run rampant across the world for all eternity. And she doesn't have any idea how to do that. She muddles through, learning as she goes and collecting more than a few bruises along the way. A strong, but fallible heroine who just does what all good heroines do - whatever she thinks she can, even if she's not sure it'll work. Small successes, despite her many mishaps or her jetlagged and exhausted self falling asleep any time she has 5 seconds of peace, make for a more genuine character than one that just manages to do everything right first time, but will she manage to do enough to save the world?
