I read “The First Days” as a part of the Goodreads First Reads program.
“The First Days” is a zombie book that follows two women as the world begins to die. It goes places that I’ve often wondered about, like zombie babies, but I haven’t seen much of. It kind of starts out with a nightmare that I’ve often had and goes through a fast paced ride of survival.
I loved this book, it started out intense and was pretty intense for the majority of the story, it lulls in much needed place and ends at a slow pace, but it is in gear to pick up the next part of the story in the following books. I must say that I like when a book gets right to the point, we start in a frenzied chaos and we don’t have to wait chapters upon chapters to get into the story. This story is kind of like a real world approach to zombies, they are a myth and people think it’s crazy, until they realize it happens. If we did have a zombie apocalypse, I could see it going down like this. Also, I like that it’s set in Texas and I can picture hill country and the settings of rural Texas, mostly because I have lived all over the state, it also makes it a bit more eerie in a way. This is a 4.5 star (out of 5) book, for me at least. It is a zombie book so if you can’t stand, death, gore, swearing and intense situations then this book probably won’t be for you. However, I assume that if you’re looking into this than you’ll just need to know it’s fun and one of the best reads I’ve had in a while.
