Basically, three teens play varying roles in trying to aid/stop the Scourge, an immortal super-baddie trying to bring about the end of creation itself.

Enthoven has some original concepts in Black Tattoo: aforementioned tattoo as a manifestation of demonic possession; Hellish nourishment that even turned my stomach a bit; and a variety of well-described and unique demons.

It also has a main character who's just one heck of a likable guy, even when he's got a hankering for Chinj vomit.

Oh, and it has gladiator fights in Hell. Gladiator fights in Hell!!

My only complaint was that the crazy para-military guy was too much of a stock character. And why is said crazy guy ALWAYS the one armed with a nuclear device?!?

Overall, I thought this was an impressive debut novel for Enthoven.

Because much of the action takes place in Hell, and God's a character (as well as God's god), I would caution recommending it to some YAs.
