This is an excellent novel, full of historical details (it includes a bibliography and notes) that makes the reader sick to know how evil human beings can be, and even worse, to know that many of them have built all the church dogmas that have come along the past two thousand years. It makes one lose respect for many human beings, not only those of the cloth, because not all of them are evil. I admit, there are many good priests out there that do not deserve to be grouped with the evil ones who ruled humanity for most of the last two thousand years or longer. The novel is entirely in Spanish, I am not sure it is translated to English yet. I only do not give it five stars because it keeps on going, and spilling out grueling details about actions that these powerful men have put the rest of humanity through. It gets to a moment that you want to say, "Okay, I get it, enough already!" But, the author wants to make sure that you are aware enough to take a stand and never fall for their intrigues again. Outstanding research involved in the making of this book! The characters are well developed, the setting is not very well described, but if you have been to the area in Mexico, you can imagine it yourself, as it is the reader's job to bring to life the author's magic - that is why so many movies made out of novels fail -- they never live up to the reader's expectations of the imagined world they have developed thanks to the author's creation. My hat is off to this young Mexican writer!
