Absolutely fantastic story. And one I'd highly recommend.
If you like The Stand, zombies, even Blood Red Road, strong female characters, self-discovery which goes hand in hand with rich characterization, post-apocalyptic settings, let's see, oh yeah, don't mind a bleak, haunting, terribly depressing yet deeply moving story, then I'd definitely give this gem of a book a try. Bonus, it's beautifully written.

*Gasp* Blood Red Road you say? This book seems to be impossible for me to get. Now that I'm pretty sure it'll be awesome, I may have to just buy the e-book!

Ha ha. I was thisclose to commenting on your to-read status of this book, to recommend it to you. Kyle, I think this book is right up your alley. Take away the nonstop action that was Blood Red Road, but insert more of a journey, a quest type book. Also, Temple to me is the epitome of a strong female. I love her to bits and pieces. She is so your dream literary girl, for she is deeply troubled, haunted, yet her heart is so pure. She believes she's evil, yet her actions speak oh so differently. Yeah, this book definitely wormed its way into my heart. I'm deeply depressed right now and am seriously tempted to crack open a Harry Potter book while same movie is playing on the TV. That's how bleak this tome is, but like I said before, you'd love it. Erase my Hourglass nod your way, saying yeah, it's not bad, this book is in a whole different category. Nuff said on that front. And I was hooked from page one. Such a different story, a different book. Gosh, I can't stop thinking about it. Wow, that very rarely happens. I think I might just make this a 5er, not a 4.5er. Okay, so I've left you with some more food for thought. : )
