This collection brought me back to the magical Dying Earth at the end of time. It's been a while since I read Vance's Dying Earth compilation, but I think I enjoyed this collection more. It was chock full of amusing anti-heroes, bizarre creatures, elaborate language, and spectacular and humorous fairy tales of the far future. The stories collected in this book were both inspired and inspiring, even the lesser ones.

Each story includes a fanciful illustration relevant to the tale rendered in a delicate baroque fashion, a perfect match for the ornate language used in most of the works. These drawings were great!

Also loved the afterwords given by each author, describing their first encounter with Jack Vance/The Dying Earth and how he inspired them. This book made me want to immediately start playing D&D again.

I loved this book; probably my favorite book of the entire year.

Fantastic overall and highly recommended.
