The romance between Severin and Hastings was a bit strange. He pretty much treated her like crap up until the very end, when he said he loved her. I wanted to strangle both of the characters through most of the book. Catherine is just a so-so author. A lot of things in the story were unrealistic, and all the cursing they did with the different saints and their body parts started to get annoying. Nobody would be creative enough to say stuff like "Saint Catherine's eyebrows" or "Saint Egbert's elbows" right on the spot. It also made a more serious dramatic part of the story a little silly when they said things like that. I only really read it for Trist. He was the best part. When he almost died, I wanted to cry. The ending was pretty good, and I loved how Trist brought babies home. But he also did lots of silly stuff that I couldn't imaging a real marten doing.
