A Buyer's Market (A Dance to the Music of Time #2)
by Anthony Powell
by Anthony Powell
Addictive! Powell's subtle wit and beautiful prose create unforgettable characters and situations. I laughed heartily throughout, though there is more depth here than in the first book as Jenkins enters adulthood. I would quote passages here, but there are just so many that I recommend reading the books for yourselves. Bear in mind that this is a quintessentially English book, of a certain time. The humour is so unforced and dry that it hits one harder on the funny bone. Powell's powers of observation are perfect - I found myself remembering various characters from my own childhood and youth in England.
