The fascinating classic of investigative journalism. Griffin, a journalist in the segregated South, decides to darken his skin and pass as black in order to learn what it is really like. He soon realizes that even he, a dedicated proponent of civil rights, had no idea what it was truly like to try to survive as a black man in the South. Most interesting, to me, was the section wherein he discusses the reactions of his neighbors to his going public with his experiences.
