Read from June 18 to 25, 2011

This book (part of a series - something I didn't realise as I plucked it from the library shelf) is marginal sci-fi. I would call it speculative fiction set in the near future. The theme is climate change, and takes the...."what if it is all true and far worse than we know" position. I found the story a little slow going to start with but I grew to like it and the characters as it went. I think the Frank character is intriguing and I am drawn into his tale...surely one of the arts of a good storyteller. The big disaster in the story is an epic flooding of Washington DC. I am interested to see where the story goes...so right now I am reading part two: "Fifty Degrees Below."
