** spoiler alert ** Reading this was a lovely treat after Beloved. This is the fifth volume of the Barsetshire Chronicles. I’m now eager to see what happens in the final volume because Lily Dale is still single at the end of this book – I had expected that she and John Eames would have become engaged. It was a nice and surprising change in this type of book not to have the outcome match your expectations. I almost hated Osborne as much as Lily’s family and friends did. Plantagenet Palliser is a character in this book – I expect that he is one of the characters in the Palliser novels which I hope to read soon.
