A compelling story, but I think Stockett made a mistake in trying to write from the minds of the black maids. Even if I didn't know it had been written by a white woman I would have guessed it from the writing. I found myself really believing what Skeeter was thinking/feeling, but not Minny or Aibileen. It did prompt me to look up its inspiration - "Telling Memories Among Southern Women: Domestic Workers and Their Employers in the Segregated South." It's on its way to me in the mail right now, and I can't wait to read the REAL stories.
