This is the 2nd book of Penman's Welsh trilogy. The widowed sister of King Henry, Nell, has remarried, against her brother's wishes. Her new husband, Simon de Montfort, is a strong-willed defender of king and adopted country, but also an enemy to injustice. This puts him in conflict with Henry and other nobles. As always, Penman has created a highly readable history of the mid to late 13th century through the use of a love story and focus on the day to day lives of people of all classes. If only history could be taught this way!
