Great book about the Lost Boys of Sudan. True story of three boys who escaped Sudan during the second civil war there in the 1980s. Heartbreaking account of two brothers and their cousin who make the 1000 mile journey from Sudan to Kenya on foot often being separated for long periods of time. The boys escaped from their villages after their families were killed or captured by troops. There were over 20,000 boys left with no family to care for them during this civil war. Their ordeal is a heartbreaking account of the starvation, disease and dangers which these children faced alone with no families to care for them. Approximately only 10,000 survived the journey to the refugee camps in Kenya out of the over 20,000. I found the human spirit and the strength of their will to survive inspiring. The boys were re-located to the U.S. in 2001 along with approx. 3600 other refugees. Very haunting novel of the effects of war you may need your kleenix for this one!
