Ah - as you can see, I didn't think this was a great book! Basically, how many chapters could I read about a man who is drunk and without motivation or dreams? Additionally, all of his friends were just like him! I would compare it to someone telling you a REALLY long joke, so you're waiting and waiting for the punchline, and it never comes!!! (and then you're annoyed at yourself for listening to such a long joke). That's how I felt at the end of this book. I was vainly waiting for characters to evolve or turn into something fascinating, but they just stayed the same. If you like characters who are driftless and don't know what their purpose is in life (and never figure it out!), then this is the book for you!
