This is Pennsylvania's One Book, One Child book for the year, so I've been trying to incorporate it into storytime. It's kind of a boring book to read out loud, though, at least to large groups; I could see it working better one-on-one. The illustrations are exuberant and the use of a vegetable garden to illustrate the concepts of "up," "down," and "around" is clever, but the kids seemed bored.
It seems that part of the problem is that the audiences I've been sharing this book with are really too old for it. I brought the "Big Book" (big storytelling book) to a storytime for one-year-olds, and they LOVED it. They were saying the words along with me and everything.
