I have read many negative reviews for this book. I think if one starts reading a book with presumptions then he or she may not enjoy the literature as intended by the author. The best way to read and enjoy a book is to begin with an empty expectation and build the expectations as the pages are gradually turned.
For me this book was good. I enjoyed reading it for the most part. It gives a very good vivid picture of the contemporary Indian society (without any pornographic picture if one is looking for it). Vatsyayan has done an excellent job of portraying the glorified past of India where freedom (social and sexual) was ubiquitous to men and women and sex was not a clandestine topic. The observations made by Vatsyayan about the various societies of different regions of Inda are worth reading if one is interested in it.
