Bro... what, you couldn't hold back a little and not completely blow us away with your prose? Damn. All kidding aside, I loved this and wonder why it took me so long to read. The criticism I've read of this is that it goes around in too many directions, does not properly focus on Oscar enough. But the beauty of this book is that it's a history, a perfect snapshot of a culture, through the personal history of this family. It's how Jeffrey Eugenides chronicles the Greek experience, the race riots of Detroit, but through the history of a hermaphrodite in Middlesex, a book I love. Diaz has done this for la republica Dominicana. The footnotes are just as entertaining as the narrative. Junot's prose is just lovely. Definitely an instant American classic.
