** spoiler alert ** I found the entire Apprentice Adept series in a used book store a while back, and since I only read 1-3 as a kid, I was super-pumped to get my hands on some craptacular fantasy/sci-fi (Piers Anthony is the MASTER of this particular subsection of the genre).

Wow. WOW. Somehow I'd forgotten the beastiality overtones in the series (which he heavily implies and goes so far as to have other characters talking about the potential for it), along with the standard Anthony racism, sexism, and horrifying compulsion to make fascist dictator states seem cool.

Most eye-bleaching moment is a tie between the scene in Out of Phaze where one of the shape-changing unicorns goes into heat, in girl-form, and so one of the human male characters has to bang the shit out of her day and night for five days, necessitating him creating a spell to give himself more stamina, and the scene in Robot Adept where a smokin' hot vampire chick has to teach a body-swapped girl (who is usually an amoeba) how to ...more

56479 I devoured these as a teenager. Sad. Those are brain cells I'll never have again.

Somewhere in one of the robot-world scenes he mentions that there are depilatories in the water system so that nobody has any body hair. That was the point where it dawned on me that I wasn't exactly reading a novel; I was reading someone's fantasy.

155594 Yes! It's in the very first book, I believe, just a throw-away mention that everyone's walking around with no body hair, which is part of why Stile is assumed to be an adolescent...and yet all the ladies have those sexy, sexy tresses on their heads. If you're going to have a fantasy of bare naked lady-bits on display, Piers Anthony, at least be consistent enough to explain why everyone still has eyelashes and stuff.

Really, even just the fact that everyone on Proton who's not a Citizen is naked all the time, kind of retarded. Not to mention that every time a woman shrugs, the jiggle of her boobs is described.
