really liked it
bookshelves: chi-reality, chi-adventure

Has strong male and female characters (they all make mistakes and show inner strength in equal parts), stuff about family, but most importantly is an exciting natural disaster adventure good for 3-5 grade. The characters are in middle school but they skew younger. Bonus for an awesome grandma, and the fact that it takes [place in the sinter home of a traveling circus, a fierce leopard, an elephant about to give birth, and lots of alligators. High adrenaline without violence, or anything objectionable for younger kids, there is a death but it is handled respectfully. It literally leaves you on the edge of your seat, stopping at a point where they just solved one problem to encounter the next thing…
