This is a book that a friend of mine and I wanted to write 10 years ago. Seriously, we had the EXACT same idea! But we were lazy slackers with no time, drive, or money. ;-) Instead, we get Wendy McClure's account of her Little House on the Prairie obsession taking her to all the actual historic sites of the Ingalls and Wilder families, as well as (in some cases) the crazy touristy hoopla surrounding these sites today. McClure even earnestly finds an antique butter churn on Ebay to try churning butter (a passage that made me cackle, while impressing me with her diligence). I even related to how she got all choked up with emotion and disappointment when faced with the physical sites which didn't jibe with the images in her own head, that had held a lifetime of meaning for her. McClure is about my age, and seems like she would totally be a pal if I met her. This funny travelogue is just about as enjoyable as getting to take the trip yourself. (This comes from someone who will burst into tears whenever I finally get to make my Gone With the Wind pilgrimage... so I totally get it.)
