really liked it
bookshelves: women-s-fiction

I really enjoyed this book. Spechler is an incredibly talented writer who is able to write for both a commercial audience - the book was a fast read and I was never confused, bored or bogged down by big/pretty words - and a literary audience - despite the relatable and fast moving plot, she has a way of writing that is almost poetic. I thought the characters were extremely well developed, especially Gray who, while a troubled woman, was not fatally flawed and despite her issues, I always knew she'd turn out ok. She was also a sympathetic character and clearly cared about other people even though, like all of us, had her selfish moments. I thought the campers were extremely fleshed out, especially Eden. I think everyone can remember those girl who while growing up tried so desperately to be part of the in-crowd and never quite made it.

The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is because it took me a while to really get into it and I save the 5 stars for those books I can't put down from beginning to end.
