Read in June, 2011 — I own a copy

not the best book in terms of handling events or the plot in convincing manner. but character depiction is simply outstanding. The book itself is a powerful condemnation of various fictitious divisions among different communities. From Indian perspective, it nicely shows how social norms can become reactionary force that hinders betterment of society as well as individual lives, and it does so while not overlooking the danger of other extreme associated with western rationalism and associated culture. the sort of naive extremism of protagonist is very meaningful in the context of irony that he himself is not a born hinduist.
