bookshelves: to-read, failed-to-finish

First I read my beloved David Copperfield, then the almost as wonderful Great Expectations. Then I chose A Tale of Two Cities. The first page made me sick and confused about who had written it. It is a thicket of brambles. The only other first page I know of that is as forbidding and alienating is in Ulysses.
