Caged in Darkness is by J.D. Stroube, who is a nice person (seems to be anyway, from online contacts), and has a lot of great ideas.

Unfortunately, these lots of great ideas struggle against each other in this first novel ... I'm not sure exactly where the line between "just right" and "too much" gets drawn, but when the concepts start competing against each other for attention, you're on the side of too much.

The premise of novel, that a young girl was held virtually as a prisoner by her parents who were tampering with forces that man has not the wisdom or power to control, was interesting. Unfortunately, J.D.'s writing lacks the fluidity of a more experienced author, and the overall effect is more stilted than I think was intended.

Speaking of dark forces, a heartless editor and a vicious proofreader (there are some unfortunate gaffes that spellcheckers don't see) could improve the overall quality of the presentation of the story, which is more interesting than I find most paranormal romances (Did I mention that I despise paranormal romances?)
