** spoiler alert **
Grant is a good writer and he really brings the characters and the place to life in his travel work. His responses to the Mexicans living in the Sierra Madre's (and how his reactions to them changes) made what could be a light book much deeper. I read this for a book group and the question I want to talk about--why did Grant get so pissed off at the people of the Sierra Madre's when they finally lived up to his expectations and the warnings he was given?
