I am a little jealous of the ability for an author to introduce a fascinating mystery on page 3 of a novel and keep your attention and curiosity until the mystery is basically solved on page 549. I don't give 5 stars to very many books, but this book was amazing! This story takes place in a few, key, important years; 1913, 1975, and 2005, so that was a little hard to keep track of at first, but was it was important and necessary to understanding the complexity of this mystery as you learned how this mystery haunted the main characters through every stage of their lives. I loved how in this book I was constantly trying to predict the answer to the mystery, and was always surprised by what I discovered. I also love how in her quest to solve the mystery for her deceased grandmother, Cassandra also discovers herself, and is able to overcome heartache from her past and focus on her bright future.
