This book and series were just "good.". It's a pity that they weren't "great.". I think Collins has amazing storytelling skills, but after 2/3rds of the 2nd and 3rd books, the last third always seems rushed and has Deus Ex qualities. It's like she can come up with great ways to lead a story to it's climax, but can't quite figure out the endings. Or, she writes front to back and has a publisher yelling about deadlines about 2/3rds through.

A pity, because these books could have been legendary, and could have been a staple next to 1984, Aminal Farm, and Farenheit 451 (which she clearly pays homage to in this last book) in school assigned teen lit for decades to come. But no, just not executed well enough.

I'll add this: you should still have your kids read these, as they hold some powerful lessons, but read it as the same time as them, and discuss it with them. The book does well to explain the evils and scenarios, but doesn't wrap them up nicely with conclusions or lessons. That's your job as a parent.
