This is the 2nd book in the Faith, Love, and Devotion series. It is the story of Jim, Matt's one night stand in Faith & Fidelity, the 1st book in the series. Jim is a workaholic police detective who has shut himself off from most people. His main focus has been a murder case in which the guilty defendant is acquited. In the aftermath of the murder trial the victim's mother collapses and dies of a heart attack. Jim stays in contact with Ed the father/husband. Eventually Hollywood comes calling to get the rights to Ed's story and Ed turns to Jim to help him sale the story. The screenwriter who purchases the rights is Griffin. Griffin and Jim start a tenuous relationship which neither is willing to admit is getting serious. The book details not only the evolution of Jim and Griffin's love story but also Jim's acceptance of the love of the other people in his life.
I enjoyed the story - not quite as much as Faith & Fidelity but it is still a 5 star read. Both Jim and Griffin face life altering situations and face a lot of pain in the process. I really like the way that Tere Michaels is able to present gut-wrenching situations without getting too morose. This book contains a little more sex than Faith & Fidelity but the focus is still on the characters and plot. I definitely recommend this book and series.
