The Hunger Games is a clever story of a future society in North America that has a central government, the Capital, which keeps control over the 12 districts of the country by forcing each district to submit two young people to battle to the death once per year. All of this is televised for the entertainment of the masses. The dialog and writing in The Hunger Games is top notch and the story is surprisingly non-grizzly given the overall plot. My only criticism is that the story, told entirely in the first person of Katniss Everdeen, is unusually linear. One could almost calculate which chapter is being read based on how many contestants are left. That said this was a very entertaining read. If you like The Hunger Games you will likely love The Passage. I give the Hunger Games a good read.
