Haunting memoir of the horrors of war, particularly of the Eastern Front.

Much controversy has been made over some factual inaccuracies. That's fine. But I have to grant the author some leeway. He was young and confused, barely able to keep track of where he was. If he makes some mistakes, I don't mind. It's the totality of the horror that he conveys, which makes the book worthwhile.
