Read from June 13 to 21, 2011
This is a good book for people who like mystery and want to read something, as Sitterfield says, with a "beginning, middle, and end." In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this was marketed as a young adult novel. Setterfield works very hard to keep the reader guessing in every chapter, but beyond working hard on plot and suspense and paying homage to 19th century Gothic novels, I can't find much in terms of deeper themes. Still, it's a book I'm sure a lot of people will like, and I'm glad to be able to recommend it.
This is the first book I read entirely on the Kindle, which made it a fun experience.
