it was amazing

The best set of memoirs/autobiography of a political/military leader I have ever read. I did not expect it to be this good and could not stop reading it once started. There are three volumes that trace Grant's earlier life up through the end of the Civil War and the surrender of Robert E. Lee. The writing is honest, clear, and informative. His military observations are fascinating and he comes across as a person of great principle, even though his presidency was less distinguished. The back story of how he wrote these memoirs while dying of cancer in order to provide an income for his family is very believable and helps explain the clear focus in the work. I highly recommend these three volumes.

Greg This has been on my list for many years. Just started but I am really enjoying; expect I will echo your thoughts. His honest, down-to-earth voice/personality is very appealing.
