This book is filled with the poetry of medicine and the poetry of tennis. If I could have understood a fraction of the tennis I would have given it 5 stars.

Verghese does a masterful job of detailing a relationship with an addict which is never what it seems on the surface and it has so many faces. This is also true of the other disease that Verghese deals with on a daily basis, AIDS. This disease is also a great imitator, presenting itself in many guises. Two terrible diseases subtly pervasive sneaking up on the unwary.
