While I might have enjoyed more on Alec and Richard's relationship, it was very appealing to be kept almost at arm's length, as if being teased. There's just enough to enjoy their interaction, despite Alec's coldness at times and thirst for violence. This is a story to be savored; the pace is slow at the beginning, but as we near the end it picks up and the relationship between Alec and Richard warms up, we can see the sincerity and true affection between them. The politicking and scheming of the other characters only seem to strengthen how their relationship is perceived.
