It took me a few chapters to really get into this book, but after that I was hooked.

Initially I didn’t like the main character Retta, mostly because she started out sounding naive, acting as if all it took for her to become a singer was going to Nashville, but in hindsight I believe that mindset is what made this book great.

In the beginning of the book Retta travels to Nashville, where she quickly discovers that there is a lot more to becoming a country singer than having a good voice. This story was thoughfull and genuine, bringing to life the not-so-glamorous realities of someone trying to make it big.

By the middle of the book I found myself rooting for Retta, and the dream she wants so badly to become reality.

If you are a country music fan or just a big dreamer, definitely grab a copy of Somebody Everybody Listens To.
