I loved the book, and I loved, loved, loved, Blessing, the 12 year old girl who is thrust from a rather privileged lifestyle in a major Nigerian city, to a dirty, backward, violent surrounding in a Nigerian village. This is one of those books that made me wish I could just sit 'n read all day. Christie Watson writes beautiful, lyrical, sentences, and her descriptive ways are wondrous. I felt I could truly visualize Blessings and her family's lives. With much violence due to the oil industry, greed, amazing poverty, as well as female genital mutilation, some scenes are tough...but the spirits of many involved, especially Blessings's grandma, make for beautiful reading. Blessing will be in my mind for many days!
