A STORY LINE THAT PROMISES BIG AND DELIVERS BIG
Though I do not include Dean Koonz among my favorite authors I have chosen to read "Watchers" since it was listed as a "must read" in a list compiled by fellow thriller authors and also had a good rating by readers from Amazon
Travis Cornell, a depressed loner having leisure in the mountains meets by chance a golden retriever who seems to have an IQ that exceeds the intelligence of a dog, from that on his life takes a sudden turn when he decides to become the master of this dog, he named Einstein. At the same time it seems that Einstein was part of a top secret research performed by the US government, which is desperately looking for the dog that run away from the laboratory where it was kept
All researchers of this project are also murdered. Travis life is at risk, he will never return his beloved smart dog
Characters, emotions and events are so freshly and realistic described that in some chapters seem to pop out of the pages. A hybrid monster, a rapist, a woman suffering from anxiety disorders, and an ambitious murderer for hire add spice to this relentless story that never loses zest from beginning to end
A one of a kind tale, the favorite of the author according to his impressive afterword (he said "..I wondered If would I ever write another book that was as personally satisfying to me as this one had been...)
