Michal’s eyes shone whenever she laid eyes on David. Her father, Saul, has decided to make him her husband for a price. When Michal helped David escape Saul’s wrath and jealousy, she was then wed to Paltiel, her childhood friend. David was indifferent, neglectful, and unresponsive to his young wife’s needs. Yet, she still loved him despite the fact that Paltiel was a devoted husband. When David sends for Michal after her father’s death, Michal discovers that life and love are not what she expected it to be.
I thoroughly enjoyed this exquisitely written and sad love story based on characters and stories from the Bible.

Nancy wrote: "All the more reason to read it. Thanks! :)"Someone gave it to me, when I realised it was about folk in the bible thought oh no. (had enough of that at Catholic school). However Diamant made the people real, fully fleshed out in all their relationship dynamics and failings. I was impressed.
I never went to Catholic school, but did have mandatory religion classes in public school. The worst thing for me was saying prayers by rote. The biblical stories were riveting, containing all the pain, sorrow and joys of real life.

Hated it at the time, but actually grateful now for the maths tables and the latin. There is much though apart from the stories that I would like to eradicate from my brain.
