I have just finished reading Gretchen Morgenson’s book Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon. I have reached a point in my life where most of my reading is for entertainment and this book is anything but entertaining; still I maintain it is a must read by anyone even remotely political in nature. It explains how we got to our current economic situation. Clearly a lack of regulation was not the cause of our economic downfall. The cause was government pressure on banks to lend money to people who were not qualified to have the loans; and governmental guarantees on those loans.
It is not my wish to get political on these pages, so I shan’t. Read the book, you may not agree with all of her conclusions, I didn’t, but she sets down the facts and basically allows you draw your on conclusions.
If you are curious as to why it took me so long to finish this tome it is because I would get so mad reading it, it would stop and read other books for weeks at a time. Aggravation aside I highly recommend this book.
