i read about 75% of the book but could not finish as it was due at the library and i could not renew due to holds.

this author was on the daily show shortly after i read just kids by patti smith. her book was so charming and light and romantic and this took place at the same time when police corruption was the norm. everyone, for the most part was on the take. police were racist as were the citizens of the city. one could be framed for murder, everyone looked upon blacks and latinos as sub human.

so he followed a corrupt police officer, the black panther movement and lindsey's candidacy for mayor and his term.

although the book was illuminating it was not engaging and i ended up reading the epilogue. i think this book would have made a better article rather than book.
