Carrie Jacobs Bond, known primarily as a song composer (she wrote the chestnut, "A Perfect Day," among others), also wrote some charming poetry books for children. This book was originally published in 1918.

There are some very sweet poems in this collection (and wonderful watercolor illustrations by Katherine Sturges Dodge).

But I think Carrie Jacobs-Bond hit the the mark more consistently in 1921 with her Tales of Little Dogs.

Or maybe I don't "get" cats, because I'm more of a dog person.
